Years in Scouting: 14
Highest Rank: N/A
Current Registered Position: Huguenot Trail District Chairman – 2 years
Other Positions in Scouting and for how long? ASM – 3 years; Scoutmaster – 3 years
Occupation? Lieutenant Colonel and Director of the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations
Who’s in Your Family? Wife – Robin; sons Brian and Matthew (Eagle Scouts); dog “Beau” (miniature dachshund – boss of the family)
What is your favorite Scouting event? Any hikes – preferably on the Appalachian Trail. (See pics – with both sons, one year apart, at the ultimate hiking location – Tooth of Time, Philmont)
What do you most enjoy doing? Along with hiking – spending quality time with the family (it gets rarer and rarer!)
What is your best Scouting memory? Seeing scouts that have come all the way from Tiger Cub to Eagle – and hoping I had just a little bit of a part in that achievement.
If you had unlimited time and resources, what would you choose to do? Spend more time with Robin and travel the world!
What are the most important things in your life? Family and friends
What do most people not know about you? I love to tinker with old cars and trucks – my current project is a pristine 1971 Chevrolet pickup – only 63,000 original miles!
What are your favorite movies? Action Adventure – although I will watch the tender movies with Robin (she hates action adventure!)
What is your favorite food or meal? Anything with chicken or fish.
What is your favorite book as an adult? An old professional acquaintance retired from law enforcement a few years ago and has written a novel called “Confederate Gold and Silver.” He requested from several close friends (me being one of them), to use them as characters in his novel. You’d have to read the book to find out who I am (and no, I am NOT President Jefferson Davis!). The book is about the gold and silver bullion hidden by the Confederacy before the end of the Civil War, and modern day attempts to locate it. As a youth? Anything science fiction – I especially liked anything by Isaac Asimov and Arthur C. Clarke.
What is something about you that would surprise other people? No surprises – what you see is what you get!
What is your favorite childhood memory? Camping trips with mom and dad
What is your favorite music and bands? Favorite music (go figure) is classic rock – My favorite band growing up (alright, I was an adult when they came out) was Molly Hatchet. I like the music of the Dave Matthews Band.
What are your hobbies? Tinkering around the house (woodworking – simple stuff), and working on old cars.
Geez, anything else? Well …if you look at my pics from 2012 and 2013 Philmont, you will notice that I am wearing the same outfit both years! Trust me, I do have a more varied wardrobe!
